How are MCUs calculated?
Monthly Collaborating Users (MCUs) counts unique users who join Liveblocks rooms within a month, where another user has also joined in the past 30 days.
Users are identified by the userId property you provide when they join a room. This userId generally comes from your database or your authentification provider. One unique userId corresponds to one user, whether they connected to a room 1 day for 5 minutes or kept coming back every day for 8 hours.
If you can’t identify them with a unique userId, Liveblocks will generate a unique userId for that user and save it in a cookie, which means that as long as they remain on the same browser, they’ll always count for one user, whether they reloaded the page multiple times or opened numerous tabs.
It doesn’t matter how many rooms a user connects to, or how frequently Liveblocks APIs are used.
How are MAUs calculated?
Monthly Active Users (MAUs) is the number of users that connect to Liveblocks rooms in a given month. Users connected on localhost, .local, .localhost, and .test domains are not included in your billing.

Do you have a yearly pricing option?

What happens when limits are reached?
Liveblocks returns a different error for each limit that a user might reach. That way, you can decide how to best handle those cases in your product. Learn more about limits.
How can I monitor my usage and billing?
You can track your usage in the Liveblocks dashboard.
How secure and reliable is Liveblocks?
Security and reliablity are one of our top concerns when building Liveblocks. We’ve designed our back-end infrastructure to be deployed on the edge using Cloudflare Workers — giving us exceptional performance, reliability, and scale. And we’ve baked authentication into the platform, so that you can set custom permissions for your users. Liveblocks is also SOC 2 compliant. Make sure to check out our Security page.
